As an adult, she can help us see that it is a problematic gift, but as a child she doesn’t see this. But an adult has given it to her, so why didn’t he, she, or they notice the problems. I think you make a decent argument for the father. I tend to read it differently, however, and tend to see the father as being more stunned than necessarily overjoyed at the appearance of his daughter. I can see taking it either way, though.</description>
